The O.W. Diaries (coming soon)

While researching at the Leitmeritz  and Flossenbürg camps, I came upon a treasure chest of lost diary fragments and reels of 8mm and 16mm film.

Each fragment pointed inexorably toward a spectral figure known only in passing to historians as Oskar Weiß.

Yet the outlines of this discovery unnerve what we have been considered for decades as historical facts: Weiss, once nominated for inclusion among the Righteous Among the Nations, now appears to merge, with disquieting probability, into the vile figure of Otto Weissel.

Weissel, a shadowy opportunist, thrived within the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, as well as in the Independent State of Croatia.

In this speculative documentary, this archival palimpsest, this "document film," or, simply, this cine-text, history itself is summoned to the stand, compelled to confront its own fragile scaffolding of memory, myth, and omission, looking at a few lives of a brave partisans in the antifascist struggle--and, in counterpoint, the spectral figure of an opportunist who drifted through the years beneath borrowed names.
