The last vigil of Governor March (coming soon)

speculative short film | security footage | USA | 2026
12:34 p.m., July 12, 2001 — San Diego, CA. Incumbent Governor March is informed by her inner circle that her authorization to detain twelve undocumented immigrants has been leaked to the press. Moments earlier she was preparing for a scheduled CNN interview with reporter R. W., conducted via the “Auto-Pen” system.
07:05 a.m., July 13, 2001 — Sacramento. Governor March is transferred under discreet escort from the Governor’s Mansion to an undisclosed facility outside the city. The official communiqué cites “health reasons,” though her calendar remains filled with meetings noted as “postponed indefinitely.” A press inquiry receives no reply.
18:42 p.m., July 14, 2001 — Reports circulate that Governor March has been moved once more, this time to a military installation. The central committee issues a brief memorandum: “The Governor’s availability is limited.” No image, voice, or proof of her presence is released. In the absence of sight, rumor fills the gap: some say she has left the country, others that she has been placed under protective custody, still others that she never left Sacramento at all. The only trace offered to the archive is a fragment of neglected security footage recorded and stored by the memory police.
The same security footage that is the basis for this biographical document film.
