a short exercise on truth: two actors
7 minutes | CZ, BiH | digital | 2021
A short film exploring the experiences of documentation, both as the viewer and subject, scrivener and actor on the world's stage: History. In the end, we all just want to be seen and heard (and recorded on screen).
This a process-oriented film: actors act, but they also write. Actors become writers. From "acting" to "participating."
A film director, after years of studying and working abroad, returns home to document his family and examine what it is to be an immigrant in a foreign country. Is there a hidden truth to being an immigrant, or only that what is disavowed? The filmmaker's approach of blending narrative with documentary challenges the familial bonds and questions the role of the camera in remembering as outsourced to a document.
Ajša and Pašan were stage actors in their home city of Doboj before being forced to flee from persecution in their war-torn country. In Prague, Ajša worked as a cleaner then an accountant. Pašan was a driver for over 20 years.
Their favourite play was Hamlet.
